The Hanover School Division is finishing the school year strong with high enrollment

Superintendent Shelley Amos reports 8,724 students at the end of May, which is just over 300 more than projected.

Even with the Steinbach Regional Secondary School graduating its largest class ever at 446, Amos says student numbers will continue to grow.

“Next year it's an even bigger class. And the year after that, it's projected to be an even bigger class too. So, growth is a good challenge to have. It brings challenges with space and everything else, but it is a good challenge to have because it means we're a dynamic community and in Hanover catchment, it’s not just Steinbach, it's all nine communities that are growing. So, we're happy.”

When Parkhill Elementary School opens in 2025, it will relieve pressure on the other three early years schools in Steinbach.

The new school is located on Parkland Drive and will have 19 K-4 classrooms, a gymnasium, a library, a music room, an art room, a multi-purpose room, a life-skills suite, and associated support spaces.

It will also include a daycare with spaces for 74 children.

The Hanover School Division recently requested a new high school as the SRSS is nearing capacity which is 2,200.
