Manitoba Lieutenant-governor Anita Neville visited the Tache Food Resource Centre in Lorette on Friday afternoon, bringing hundreds of pounds of food donations.

“Nothing bothers me more than the thought of people being hungry,” she said. “Nothing bothers me more. And I’m not in the position to cook for people but this is a way that I can use the office of Lieutenant-governor to gather food for those who need it and it's not hard to do.”

The Lieutenant-governor's Sharing Hope Initiative inspired the Community Helpers United Inc. to also contribute food under Her Honour’s program.

The total amount of food donated Friday to the Tache Food Resource Centre weighed in at 1,470 pounds.

Volunteer Irene Bialek appreciated the donations and the personal visit.

“That is just beyond words for us to have that honour of her visit to our humble little food bank has been just wonderful, and coming with all the food that she's brought and her good wishes and good words, it's been just really, really nice.”

Looking at the many bags of food that were donated, Bialek smiled and said it was amazing and wonderful to get support in helping feed local families.

Tache Mayor Armand Poirier says there are many families living through tough times right now and experiencing food insecurity, so the food donation is greatly appreciated.

The Tache Food Resource Centre provides 95 food hampers every two weeks which helps support 294 people.
