During the Hanover School Board meeting Thursday evening, Chair Brad Unger announced the name of the new early years school in Steinbach.

“We batted around a few different options. We were trying to fit the theme of schools and Steinbach and we didn't want to copy a different school already in existence in Manitoba. So, we went with Parkhill Elementary School.”

Unger says they asked their senior administration team to come up with a few ideas for trustees to choose from.

“There’s a provincial database that has alphabetically all the different names in the province,” he explains.

It appears construction of Parkhill Elementary School is on schedule, Unger notes, and it’s expected to open in 2025.

The school will provide space for 500 students and be capable of expanding to 600.
