Changes coming Thursday to Highway 12 traffic flow
A change in traffic flow will take effect Thursday morning along Highway 12 in Steinbach. This is to accommodate the work being done at the Highway 12 and Loewen Boulevard intersection. The City of Steinbach has indicated that the change will happen early Thursday morning. It says both southbound and northbound traffic along Highway 12 will be directed to use the southbound lanes between south of Elmdale Street to north of Loewen Boulevard before Millwork Drive. Northbound Highway 12 lanes in this area and a portion of Loewen Boulevard east of Highway 12 will be closed. According to the City, southbound traffic will be able to turn right onto Loewen Boulevard, west of Highway 12. Also, motorists from Loewen Boulevard will be able to turn right onto Highway 12. Access to businesses along the east side of Highway 12 will be maintained through a delineated drive aisle within the parking lot area. The intersection of Highway 12 and Millwork Drive will return to normal. The City says this update to the traffic management plan in the area will allow the contractor to continue work on the northbound lanes of Highway 12 and Loewen Boulevard. The City of Steinbach would like to thank all drivers and residents for exercising caution and following signage when travelling in the area and for their patience as work on the Highway 12/ Loewen Boulevard intersection renewal project continues. As mentioned, the change in traffic flow is scheduled to take effect Thursday morning and will be in place until further notice. As of mid-June, the City indicated that the targeted completion for this entire project is fall of 2025.
