St.Malo's Cory Baldwin has accepted a scholarship to the University of Wisconsin-River Falls. The former Eastman Selects forward had 16 goals and 41 points in 58 games with the Dauphin Kings during the 2005-2006 Manitoba Junior Hockey League regular season schedule. He added eight goals and six assists in the playoffs.

The Manitoba Junior Baseball League's Carillon Sultans improved their record to 6 and 3 downing the Pembina Valley Orioles 5-3 Sunday in Morden. The Sultans will meet the defending champion Elmwood Giants Wednesday in Winnipeg.

The Winnipeg Goldeyes wrapped up their 10 game homestand with an 8-5 loss to Edmonton. The Goldeyes will open a four games series Monday in Calgary against the Vipers.

The 10th Manitoba Baseball Hall of Fame Induction ceremony was held this past Saturday in Morden. Thirteen individuals were added to the Hall. They included Al Evason, Dirk Gibbons, Armando Vasques, Mike Levandoski, Terry Lynd, Don Maskiw, Garth Neville, Maurice Oakes, Bill Siddle, Denny Smith, Barry Swanton. Frank Watkins and Bruce Gullett. Plum Coulee's Toews family...father Peter and his four sons Ron, Garry, Brian and Bill were inducted. Four teams were added to the Hall including the 1948-51 Brandon Grey's, Snowflake's 1948-52 teams, 1978-80 Elmwood Giants and the 1955-60 Lyleton Leafs.

The Hanover Kickers Boys Under 16 Team placed 3rd in the Children's Hospital Soccer Tournament at John Blumberg Sports Complex.  The Kickers had a record of 2 wins, 1 tie and 1 loss.

The Provincial Rural High School Track & Field Championships were held this past weekend in Selkirk. Zacharie Durand of Ecole St.Joachim in La Broquerie finished first in the Senior Boys 200 metres, second in the 100 metres and fourth in the high jump. Josiah Johnson of Steinbach Christian was sixth in the 400 metres, fourth in the 800 metres and fifth in the 1500 metres. Dustin Lussier of Lac du Bonnet was 20th in the 1500 and Jason Dueck of Steinbach Christian was 21st. Steffan Reimer of Steinbach Christian was fifth in the 3000 metres and seventh in the 100 metre hurdles, Trenton Penner of Steinbach Christian was 13th in the 3000 metres while Clinton Kachurr of Lac du Bonnet was ninth. Steinbach Christian "A" ws fifth in the 4 x 400 metre relay. Chad Jorgenson of Whitemouth was 11th in the high jump. Travis Atnip of Ross L. Gray in Sprague was second in the long jump, second in the triple jump and ninth in the shotput. Patrick Rollins of Lac du Bonnet was fifth in discus.
Travis Boehr of Green Valley was eighth in the Junior Boys 800 metres, Darrick Fast of Steinbach Christian was fourth in the 1500 metres. Lac du Bonnet's Bryce Lodge was fourth and Tim Hanton was fifth in the tetrathlon. Miriam Poppe of Ste.Anne was second in the Senior Girls 1500 metres, ninth in the 800 metres and third in the 3000 metres.

The Winnipeg Blue Bombers released 14 players Sunday. They included slotbacks Casey Allen, Jeff Schieman and Adrian Madise, running back Tellis Redmon, offensive linemen Ryan Bisson, Tyler Tapp and Ryan Bachman, linebackers Santino Hall, Travis Ortega and Scott Mennie, defensive lineman Martin Lapostolle and Demetrius Shambley and defensive backs Brad Franklin and Boyd Barrett. The Bombers will play their final pre-season game in Montreal this Thursday. Winnipeg lost to the Alouettes 25-24 last Friday.
