A power outage is reported Saturday afternoon affecting part of Steinbach as well as Friedensfeld and the area between the two communities.

On the Manitoba Hydro website, it notes the outage was reported at 1:07pm and they estimate power should be restored by 4:30pm.

This outage is affecting around 690 customers.

Last weekend, thousands of customers were without power after a storm dumped heavy snow on the region.

Environment Canada is cautioning residents of southern Manitoba to be prepared for snow and freezing rain later this weekend and early next week.

After the outages last weekend, Steinbach Fire Chief Kel Toews offered some tips on how to prepare for a power outage.

He said the best way to stay safe during long power outages is to be prepared with a 72-hour kit that includes food, flashlight and batteries, and a radio, along with a battery powered phone charger.
