It was the perfect day to be outside and community members of all ages met at E.A. Friesen Park for a fun bike ride.

LaBikequerie and Strong Towns joined forces to put on a fun, monthly outing for the community during the summer months.

Wade Wiebe, a member of both groups, speaks about their goal and why Strong Towns has decided to put on this event.

“Not focusing so much on efficiency in city development and the way we live, we’re focusing more on resilience,” Wiebe says. “One of the ways that we can do that is by doing little things like a bike jam, getting people together and getting them off their screens. What we do is try and get people connected and active”

Wiebe discusses that the ride is for all ages, and it is a great way to teach kids about bike safety.

“To be able to get kids out, active, and feel safe on the road,” expresses Wiebe. “Then we can send our kids out on the road themselves, once they’re old enough. The idea is really to get people together, having fun and comfortable biking on the road.”

He encourages parents to bring their kids as it is a great learning experience while being able to have fun with friends.

The park filled with smiles and laughter as people joined in on the bike ride.

Helmets and bells were given away as prizes before the event.
