Sarah Potomak had a goal and an assist as Canada defeated Sweden 3-0 in the quarterfinals of the 2022 World Women's Hockey Championship Thursday in Herning, Denmark. Erin Ambrose and Ste. Anne's Jocelyne Larocque also scored for Team Canada. Ann-Renee Desbiens made nine saves in recording the shutout. Canada will face Switzerland in the semifinals on Saturday. The United States will take on Czechia in the other semi. 


The Carillon Sultans will meet the Stonewall Blue Jays in the Winnipeg Senior Baseball League championship series. The Sultans plated five runs in the top of the first inning and added six more in the sixth en route to a 12-4 victory over the Elmwood Giants in the third and deciding game of the their semifinal at Koskie Field. Joe Easu had two hits and drove in four runs for Carillon while Myles Hiebert drilled a three-run homer. 


The Steinbach Regional Secondary School's football team played an exhibition game in Oakbank. Steinbach Regional dropped a 27-14 decision to the Springfield Sabres. The SRSS started the game with 15 junior varsity players and trailed 7-0 after the first quarter. The remaining three quarters were played with the varsity players. Steinbach Regional will open the 2022 Winnipeg High School Football League season on Friday, September 9th against the Oak Park Raiders at A.D Penner Park. The SRSS junior varsity team meet the Dakota Lancers in a preseason scrimmage on Thursday, September 8th in Steinbach.


Shelly Stouffer of Nanoose Bay captured the Canadian Senior Women's Golf Championship and the Canadian Women's Mid-Amateur Championship by one shot over Terrill Samuel of Etobicoke. Stouffer, who won the United States Senior Women's Championship last month in Alaska, fired a final round even par 72 Thursday afternoon at Breezy Bend and finished with a 54-hole total three-over par 219. Manitoba Senior champion Rhonda Orr of Southwood was one-over par 73 and finished in a tie for 10th place at plus 16. Charmaine Mackid of Breezy Bend was two-over par 74 and finished in a tie for ninth place at plus 14 in the Mid-Amateur Championship.
