The Provincial Junior Golf Championships begin today at the Niakwa Country Club in Winnipeg. There are 60 golfers in the Junior Boys championship including Ty Brewster & Matthew Penner of Quarry Oaks and Zach Romaniuk of La Broquerie Golf. There are 12 golfers in the Junior Girls championship. Crystal Zamzow of Swan River is the defending champion.

The Carillon Sultans play their regular season finale tonight (7 p.m.) when they meet the Pembina Valley Orioles at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach. The Sultans are 18-5 and have clinched first place and captured the Manitoba Junior Baseball League pennant. Carillon will meet either the Altona Bisons or Winnipeg South Wolves in the opening round of the playoffs which begin this weekend. 

The Winnipeg Goldeyes erupted for six runs in the sixth inning and went on to defeat the defending American Association champion Kansas City Monarchs 7-3 at Blue Cross Park. Roby Enríquez had a pair of rbi for the Fish who were held hitless over the first five innings by Monarchs starting pitcher Michael Watson.

Julian Alvarez and Lionel Messi each scored and defending champion Argentina beat Canada 2-0 Tuesday night in the Copa America semifinal in East Rutherford, New Jersey. More than 80-thousand fans filled MetLife Stadium to watch the match. Argentina, winners of the Copa America title 15 times, will face either Uruguay or Colombia in Sunday's final. Canada will play in the third place game on Saturday.

The Canadian men's basketball team will get its first test ahead of the Paris Olympics tonight in Las Vegas. Canada will face the United States at T-Mobile Arena. The seventh-ranked Canadians last saw the top-ranked Americans in the bronze medal game at the FIBA World Cup in September, when Canada prevailed 127-118 in overtime to win its first-ever medal at the event.

The Rivalry Series between the Canadian and American women's hockey teams will return next season, with Atlantic Canada hosting the final two games. The fourth game will be played February 6th at Scotiabank Centre in Halifax, and Summerside, Prince Edward Island, will hold the finale on February 8th at Credit Union Place. The first three games will be played in the United States in November. Canada won four straight to capture the seven-game Rivalry Series this past season.
