RCMP have released new hi-res photos of robbery suspect

Steinbach RCMP still have no suspects in the two-month old robbery at Clearspring Mall.

A number of businesses in the Mall were hit by a lone thief during the overnight period October 1st.  In hopes of identifying the suspect, Police have now released a series of hi-resolution photos taken from surveillance video that night.  Constable TJ Clarke says they hope the photos will jog someone's memory.

"We kind of put that out to the community in hopes they can help.  I don't think it's a matter of people not recognizing the person, it's just the photos we've put out haven't been of the best quality."

Following the robbery, Police released surveillance video of the suspect exclusively to Steinbachonline.  However, much like Clarke stated, the images were too grainy for anyone to make out the suspect.  So, they shipped the video off to Ottawa where it was examined by a special investigations team, who sent back the new photos.

"They enhance the photos, blow up certain parts of the photo and bring in better clarity."

Clarke admits that as time goes by, the chances of catching the thief diminish, but he remains hopeful.

"It's like that with any case, the longer it goes, the harder it is to solve....but that doesn't mean it's not solvable."

If you recognize the suspect, or have any further information, Clarke urges you to call the local detachment at 326-4452 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS).
