As motorists travel toward the intersection of Loewen Boulevard and Hespeler Street, they’ll come across some new Stop signs.

Back in November, City Council discussed the congestion at this intersection. Jac Siemens said it was a regular occurrence for traffic to become backed up at 9am, noon, and the worst is when school lets out, between 3:30 and 4:30pm.

Councillor Jake Hiebert also noted there have been complaints from both drivers and pedestrians.

“I've had a number of complaints, but also there's been concerns by pedestrians of almost getting hit there. So, there's not only vehicular, but it's also pedestrian complaints.”

At that time, Siemens reported traffic getting backed up from Loewen Boulevard all the way to Lyndhurst Gate.

Since construction started for the improvement of the intersection of Loewen Boulevard and Brandt Street, motorists are finding alternate routes to avoid the construction.

This has resulted in much greater congestion at the Loewen and Hespeler intersection.

During peak travel times, traffic has been backed up from Loewen Boulevard all the way south to Evergreen Avenue.

With this new 3-way Stop at that intersection, the expectation is that travel will flow better and safer.
