Brian Falk scored twice and Evan Ens recorded the clean sheet as Niverville Force SC defeated Kucame FC 4-0. Parker Davis and Marius Enns also scored for Force SC who have four wins, three losses and one tie in the Manitoba Major Soccer League's 1st Division. Niverville's next game is Wednesday, July 3rd at home against Grant Park SC.


Canada plays its second group stage match today against Peru in Kansas City. Canada lost its Copa America opener 2-0 to top ranked Argentina last Thursday while Peru and Chile played to a scoreless draw. 


Receivers Dalton Schoen and Keric Wheatfall suffered knee injuries in the Winnipeg Blue Bombers 26-24 loss to the B.C. Lions last Friday. Head coach Mike O'Shea told reporters that Schoen will go on the six-game injured list and Wheatfall will also be out of the lineup for a while. The 0-3 Bombers face the Stampeders in Calgary Saturday night. 


The Florida Panthers are Stanley Cup champions for the first time in franchise history. Sam Reinhart scored the go-ahead goal with 4:49 left in the second period and Sergei Bobrovsky made 23 saves as the Panthers defeated the Edmonton Oilers 2-1 in the deciding seventh game of the series Monday night in Sunrise. Florida head coach and former Winnipeg Jets bench boss Paul Maurice finally won a Stanley Cup championship after coaching the most games in NHL history before his first title with 1,985.  Edmonton captain Connor McDavid, who led the league with 42 points in the post-season, was named the Conn Smythe Trophy winner as the most valuable player in the playoffs. He is the sixth player to win it while playing for the losing team and the first since goaltender Jean-Sebastien Giguere for the Mighty Ducks of Anaheim in 2003. Anaheim lost the Cup final to New Jersey in seven games.


Matt Strome scored 66 seconds into overtime as the Hershey Bears beat the visiting Coachella Valley Firebirds 5-4 to win the Calder Cup. Pierrick Dube scored three goals for the Bears, who won the best-of-seven American Hockey League championship series in six games.


The Manitoba High Schools Athletic Association will announce the winners of the 2023-2024 Athlete of the Year Awards today at 12 p.m. at Sport Manitoba in downtown Winnipeg. The Male and Female Athletes of the Year will be awarded for each classification (A, AA, AAA, AAAA), along with the overall High School Male and Female Athlete of the Year.
