Manitobans will soon pay more money for natural gas.

The Public Utilities Board has approved the application of Centra Gas Manitoba. The rate change will take effect November 1st. The new rate is projected to increase the bill for a typical residential customer by approximately $100 per year, or 11.5 per cent.

Gas commodity is sold on a cost recovery basis, meaning that Centra charges customers only what Centra pays for Gas commodity and does not make a profit on its sale. The current Gas commodity rate increase is predominantly the result of increases in the North American natural gas market prices.

Centra's gas commodity rates will be reviewed again February 1, 2023. Gas commodity rates for customers that have signed fixed-term fixed-price contracts, with either Centra or a private broker, are not affected.
