Six members of the Country Classics Car Club picked up awards at the World of Wheels Car Show in Winnipeg.

Club President Mario Silva entered his 1969 Camaro, which picked up three awards.

“I purchased it off the original owner who owned the vehicle since 1969. He did a complete restoration on the car. I purchased it off him and I currently own it,” he says.

Silva appreciates the attention the car received, saying it got a “very good response because the colors seem to appeal to a lot of people, because it's Fathom Green and attracts a lot of people. Plus, the car itself and its caliber of restoration, it brought a lot of interest. Being a sports car and a muscle car, it definitely is an eye opener.”

He received $1,000 along with the awards for his Camaro; in its class, Muscle Car Restored from ‘68-’73-1st Place, as well as 1st place awards for Best Muscle Car and Best Restored.

Silva says it’s always fun to exchange stories with other car enthusiasts.

“It's always nice to interact with people. You'll get a lot of people saying, ‘I used to own one of those when I was a kid,’ and you hear the stories that came with that, or ‘Oh, I should have never sold my car.’ But you know, as we're young, we get to that life where we raise families and other priorities where you have to let your baby go and then, when we get to the age that we’re at, we want to get back our childhood dream cars. And that's where we buy them and restore them with love and show them off, and people do enjoy looking at them and talking about them, that's for sure.”
