The effects children experience from recent school shootings will vary. That from School Clinical Pshychologist Dr. Karen Paine.  Although she has not come across any recent reports she says location and exposure are factors that will determine psychological impact.  Those who were closest to the incidents or gained the most exposure from them may exhibit symptoms of post traumatic stress disorder years down the road.  The disorder may appear in plain fear of school or night terrors.  Paine adds studies have shown that kids experience more fear and anxiety about school than they did five years ago.  Parents of wary children are to comfort them and normalize their fear.  She explains tell them it's O.K. to be scared and that although shootings have been happening a lot they are very rare.
