It sounds like the speed limit will soon be reduced along a stretch of Provincial Road 210, east of Ste. Anne.

That’s the location of a fatal car crash earlier this month that claimed the life of a 48-year-old man from Steinbach.

Two years ago, the R.M. of Ste. Anne had asked the province to reduce the speed limit to 70 kilometers per hour from Finnigan Road to PR 207. The current speed limit is 100 km/h.

Last year, council had asked the province for an update on the application. Council minutes indicate there was verbal communication that the request was in a long list of provincial projects under review.

“We figured we’d go back to them and say, ‘listen, there was a reason for our application and for you guys to just put it on the dusty shelf was not acceptable.’ So, we went to a higher up and rattled the chains very hard,” Saindon says. “So, now we've gotten confirmation that they are going to be changing those speed limit signs.”

While the province has agreed to a lower speed limit, Saindon says no timeline was given.

“I would assume it would be this summer,” says Saindon. “They had said they were looking at it seriously.”

Saindon believes it is necessary to provide motorists with proper signage and a lower speed limit.
