The Carillon Sultans split a doubleheader with the Interlake Blue Jays Sunday at Quarry Park in Stonewall. The Sultans plated six runs in the top of the fourth inning and then put the game away with 10 more runs in the fifth and beat the Blue Jays 17-3 in the opener. Tyrus Culleton singled, doubled and homered in game one. Linden Meilleur got the win as he went all five innings, scattered six hits and struck out seven. Carillon managed just three hits in the second game and fell 2-0 to Interlake. Shaybn Wiebe took the loss despite a stellar performance on the mound. Wiebe allowed just three hits, one earned run and struck out four Blue Jays. The Sultans, who have a 5-7-1 record, will face the defending Manitoba Junior Baseball League champion Elmwood Giants Tuesday at A.D. Penner Park in Steinbach.


The Winnipeg Goldeyes wrapped up their six-game road trip with a 6-1 victory over the Lincoln Saltdogs. Max Murphy had a two-run homer for the Fish who have won five in a row. Winnipeg will begin a three-game series with the American Association's West Division leading Fargo-Moorhead Redhawks on Tuesday at Shaw Park.


Cala Korman of the Killarney Lakeside golf club shot a final round four-over par 76 and won the Women’s City & District Championship Sunday at La Broquerie Golf. Korman finished with a 36-hole total of 153 which was three strokes better than Jill Hardy of Niakwa. First round leader Charmaine Mackid of Breezy Bend was 83 in the final round and finished in third place at 158. Kate Gregoire of Quarry Oaks (87-74) finished in fourth place at 161. Adam Blair of Pinawa  won the Junior Men’s Division. Jewel Lafleche of Clear Lake Golf Course captured the Junior Women’s Division. Kristian Hammerback won the All Abilities Championship and Patrick Cloutier finished first in the Special Olympics Division.


The Ontario Junior Hockey League champion Hamilton Bulldogs face the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League champion Shawinigan Cataractes tonight in New Brunswick. The winner will meet the host Saint John Sea Dogs in the Memorial Cup final on Wednesday.
