The 2024 Grad Class at Shevchenko School in Vita will be holding a fundraising bingo this month to help pay for portions of their graduation celebration in June.

Grade 12 student Kaitlyn Bergen is Vice-President of the Grad Committee and says this is their first fundraiser of the year.

“And it’s hopefully going to be one of the biggest ones we do,” she adds. “We have a bunch of different prizes donated from businesses all around our community and Steinbach and just the local places. And we have a lot of big donations so far coming in and there'll be a perogy supper served, which will cost $10.”

The evening will also include a silent auction and a 50/50 draw.

If you’re planning to eat perogies and play bingo, she suggests you might want to arrive before the bingo gets underway, so your hands are free to mark your bingo sheet.

“If you're coming just to play the bingo and not for the meal, then you can come right when the bingo starts, but the meal will be open before that. It depends how serious of a player you are. There are some old ladies who play bingo, and they take it very seriously and they can do six big sheets at once.”

Doors open at 5pm with Bingo starting at 6:30pm at the Vital Hall. All money raised will help pay expenses for the graduation dinner and Safe Grad event. The Borderland School Division covers all costs for the graduation ceremony.

Bring your Bingo dabber, your appetite and your wallet to the fundraiser on Friday, November 17th. If you don’t have a dabber, Bergen says you can purchase one at the event.
