The Winnipeg Blue Bombers will meet the Montreal Alouettes in the 110th Grey Cup next Sunday in Hamilton. Brady Oliveira ran for 109 yards and a touchdown, and the Bombers defense sacked B.C. quarterback Vernon Adams Jr. nine times as Winnipeg defeated the Lions 24-13 in the CFL’s West Division final in front of a sold-out crowd of 32,343 at IG Field. The Bombers also picked off Adams three times. Nick Hallett scored Winnipeg’s other major. Hallett blocked Stefan Flintoft’s punt, scooped up the ball and went 15 yards for a touchdown. It’s the first time in franchise history the Bombers will play in their four straight Grey Cup game. Montreal forced eight Toronto turnovers and the beat the Argonauts 38-17 in the East Division final.


Cole Plowman made 16 saves as the Steinbach Pistons shutdown the Selkirk Steelers 6-0 at the HyLife Centre in La Broquerie. Noah Szabo, Brandon Funk, Brady Ingebritson, Grady Hoffman, Brett Kaiser and Kirk Mullen did the goal scoring for the defending Manitoba Junior Hockey League champions. Ty Kennett scored the Nighthawks lone goal in Niverville’s 2-1 loss to the Virden Oil Capitals.


The Springfield Xtreme, Lorette Comets and Red River Mudbugs were winners in the Hanover Tache Junior Hockey League. Dylan Kizlik made 44 saves as the Xtreme shaded Steinbach 2-1 in Oakbank. Evan Jasper had both goals for Springfield including the go-ahead goal at 11:20 of the third period. Keyan Grimard had the lone goal for the defending champion Huskies. Hunter Mangin had two goals and two assists as the Comets downed the Niverville Clippers 5-2. Andrew Dyck and Bryson Loewen each had a goal and an assist as the Mudbugs defeated the Landmark Blues 3-2.


The Eastman Selects gave up four unanswered goals and fell 6-4 to the Yellowhead Chiefs in Shoal Lake. Luc De Gagne, Calyb Moore, Hayden Kochen and Steele Jowett scored for the Selects.


Eastman dropped a 4-2 decision to the Westman Wildcats in Niverville. Isabella Carriere and Danyel Heppner did the goal scoring for the Selects.


Roger McQueen had two goals and two assists in the Brandon Wheat Kings 7-5 victory over the Regina Pats at Westoba Place. Rylen Roersma and Brett Hyland also had two goals each for the Wheat Kings. Caleb Hadland had the other Brandon goal. Carter Bjarnason made 27 saves.


The Winnipeg Jets three game winning streak came to an end Saturday afternoon at Canada Life Centre. Wyatt Johnston had a goal and an assist as the Dallas Stars beat Winnipeg 3-2. Cole Perfetti and Brenden Dillon did the goal scoring for the Jets.


Canada fell 5-2 to the United States in game two of the Rivalry Series. Gabbie Hughes scored twice and Hilary Knight had a pair of assists for the Americans. Laura Stacey and Jamie Lee Rattray replied for Canada. Brandon’s Kristen Campbell made 19 saves. Game three goes December 14th in Kitchener, Ontario.


Manitoba’s Kyle Kurz, Beth Peterson, Ian McMillan and Melissa Gordon lost 6-4 to Shaun Meachem of Saskatchewan in the gold medal game at the Canadian Mixed Curling Championship. Team Kurz suffered only two losses in Swift Current and both were to Saskatchewan. Meachem, vice-skip Kelly Schafer, second Chris Haichert and lead Teejay Haichert reeled off 11 straight wins after losing their opener to Paul Flemming of Nova Scotia. Team Meachem will represent Canada at the 2024 World Championship October 12-19 in Aberdeen, Scotland.
