Villa Youville in Ste. Anne is looking for volunteers to visit with their residents.

Celeste Pattyn, Project Manager at Villa Youville, says it’s a friendly environment and a big facility, so the more the merrier.

“We're looking for anybody who has any kind of hobbies like playing cards, gardening, baking. If you like crocheting or woodworking, or even if it's just going for a walk, residents just love to be around people.”

They are asking people to come and partake in their own hobbies with residents.

“We want to hear from the volunteers what they're really good at, and we can make it work. Most likely there is more than one resident here who would love to experience whatever that person has as a hobby.”

Pattyn says volunteers choose their hours, whether it’s once a year or twice per week.

“If it's only once a year, that's fine. If it's twice a week, that's awesome. Whatever you're willing to do, if it's an hour or half an hour, we're open to anything.”

She says it’s great to get a variety of volunteers.

“Every season is different too, now spring's going to be coming up and we've got a lot of people that are going to be starting gardening, and just having new people and new voices and new stories to tell, it's nice.”

Pattyn appreciates volunteers spending time with residents as it helps them have fuller days filled with different activities.

“It passes the time, and there's a lot of people volunteer-wise that have a little bit of time that they'd love to go and meet somebody, so why not come here and make a new friend?”
