The Transportation Safety Board of Canada has released the cause of last Thursday’s train derailment near La Broquerie.

As we have reported, the derailment occurred at the intersection of Road 36N and PR 210 northwest of the community of La Broquerie.

A spokesperson from the Transportation Safety Board of Canada, or TSB says evidence initially pointed to a suspected broken rail at the Road 36N crossing. This suspicion has since been confirmed as the cause of the incident.

The statement goes on to say the TSB is currently assessing this occurrence in accordance with their Policy on Occurrence Classification. Only a preliminary investigation has been completed, but if they decide to launch a full investigation into the incident, their spokesperson says they will publicly report on that investigation and its findings.

Crews worked quickly to repair the tracks at the site of the derailment and CN Rail has confirmed that service was fully restored on Saturday.

The Road 36N crossing remains closed due to ongoing clean-up operations in the area.
