Steinbach welcomes new Canadians at Summer in the City Citizenship Celebration

There was a good crowd on hand for the Canadian Citizenship Celebration at Summer in the City. 

Gwen Reimer with Eastman Immigrant Services (EIS) says it was great to have so many new Canadians on stage. 

“They have reached a milestone,” she says. “They have studied, they have taken the oath, some of them have crossed waters to come here and to just be with us. It is very exciting to be able to welcome them here to this country of freedom, great weather and it’s a wonderful time to celebrate.” 

Mayor Earl Funk says it’s an honour to welcome new Canadians to Steinbach. 

“When you are born into a family and you live in a community, you can’t choose that. But these new immigrants are choosing us,” he says. “All the new citizens, they’ve chosen Steinbach and that’s very, very special.” 

The Canadian Citizenship Celebration has become an annual event at Summer in the City.
