Beautifully painted concrete bollards in front of the Niverville Community Resource and Recreation Centre have been admired by the community for the past few years, however, only half of them are painted.

Jessica Banman, a former student at Niverville High School had painted the bollards for her Grade 12 final project in 2022.

She had designed all of them but decided she would start with half. She began in May 2022 and finished by the Fall.

Warren Britton, the Recreation and Facility Manager for the Town of Niverville, says they originally wanted Banman to complete them.

“We were hoping that she would do it as a paid gig next year, but with school and a part-time job, it didn’t really work out for her,” he says. “So, I think we have some opportunity here to continue what she started.”

Britton is hopeful that a local artist will come forward to paint the remaining bollards.

He explains that Banman had put a lot of time and effort into these paintings and the next individual would have to do the same.

“She did a lot of research on painting on spheres, the proper kind of paint, and things like that so it would last quite a while. And that’s why I say you need the right person or the right fit in order to continue the project.”

Britton encourages individuals to reach out or contact recreation@whereyoubelong.ca if they or someone they know would be interested in completing this project.
