Construction is expected to begin this week on hard surfacing a portion of Hanover Road.

Rob Driedger is Manager of Engineering and Utilities for the Rural Municipality of Hanover. He says they are planning to add an asphalt surface to Hanover Road or Road 34N, from Road 30E to 31E, which is a couple of miles south of Mitchell.

Driedger says this road was reconstructed several years ago.

"We know there's a large residential component in the area," says Driedger. "There's a lot of traffic on that road, so it was council's decision to hard surface it."

He notes hard surfacing this stretch will cut down on maintenance while providing a service to residents.

According to Driedger, crews are scheduled to begin reshaping the road on Monday, June 17th. He notes the reshaping should be completed within a couple of days. The asphalt work should then be wrapped up on Thursday or Friday, weather permitting.

Driedger notes there are some rural subdivisions off Hanover Road in that section being constructed. He says for residents living along that stretch, crews will be maintaining local traffic so that motorists can travel to and from their properties.

"They will be maintaining one lane through the portion of the project," adds Driedger. "So, there will be some small delays at times."

All other motorists who do not live down that stretch are encouraged to find an alternate route this next week.

The work is being done by Bituminex Paving of Winnipeg at a cost of just under $600,000.
