It sounds like construction will soon get underway for the new daycare facility in Ste. Anne.

Town council has met with the general contractor, John Q Public, to hear more about the process of setting up the ready-to-move daycare which was granted through a program of the provincial and federal governments.

“They shared with us their experience, how that's gone and the process and all that kind of stuff. And then we had four resolutions we had to pass based on that award from the province and after meeting with John Q Public to basically appoint them as our general contractor.”

St. Vincent is confident that the general contractor will deliver a great building, considering they have already worked on many of the daycares that have already gone up in communities across the province.

“It was very exciting to hear how they've got this down to a science and how quickly these buildings go in and go up. So, it was a very exciting conversation with them to hear what the next steps are for that.”

St. Vincent expects they will soon choose a site, which will be near the schools in Ste. Anne.

“I think once we get our site picked and that survey is done, I think they're going to start immediately and there was talk of hopefully by the spring of 2024 opening the doors and welcoming children in there.”

The town is now accepting applications from organizations to operate the new daycare which will have space for 74 children.

Meanwhile, the new vocational high school will open in 2027 in Ste. Anne which will include a daycare with 72 spots.

St. Vincent says there are many families in the community who desperately need access to childcare, and he appreciates this support from the government.
