New Bothwell's Amanda Bergen is the Manitoba Colleges Athletic Conference female athlete of the week. The Providence University College setter notched 31 assists (tied for match high) along with seven digs and two kills in a four-set home victory over Canadian Mennonite University on January 20th. The next night, the Pilots went on the road and won a hard fought five setter comeback win against the Blazers and Bergen added 42 assists with 15 digs and three kills plus three total blocks.


Pierre-Luc Dubois scored the Jets lone goal as Winnipeg dropped a 2-1 decision to the Nashville Predators. Connor Hellebuyck made 39 saves in net for the Jets who had two wins and three losses on their five-game road trip. Tanner Jeannot potted the go-ahead goal at 5:38 of the third period for the Predators. Winnipegger Cody Glass also scored for Nashville. The Jets begin a five-game homestand Thursday night when they meet the Buffalo Sabres at Canada Life Centre. 


It's day one of the 2023 Provincial Scotties Tournament of Hearts at the East St. Paul Arena. The 12 teams in the field include Jennifer Jones, Abby Ackland, Kristy Watling, Lisa McLeod, Alyssa Calvert, Grace Beaudry, Chelsea Carey, Beth Peterson, Katy Lukowich, Darcy Robertson, Emma Jensen and number one seed Kaitlyn Lawes. The opening ceremonies are tonight at 6:45 p.m. The winner will join three-time defending champion Kerri Einarson of Gimli at the National Scotties Tournament of Hearts next month in Kamloops.


The Kansas City Royals purchased the contract of Winnipeg Goldeyes’ right-handed pitcher Will McAffer. The North Vancouver native made 12 appearances for the Goldeyes at the end of 2022, posting a 1.54 ERA in 11.2 innings. He struck out 16 and allowed just four hits. McAffer then made two scoreless appearances during the postseason. The 25-year-old right-hander was drafted by the Toronto Blue Jays in the 25th round in 2018 out of Tulane University.
