Adam Guenther is the low Manitoban heading into day two of the Canadian Men's Mid-Amateur Golf Championship in Thornhill, Ontario. Guenther was two-over par 72 Tuesday and trails co-leaders Zachary Hallborg of Welland and defending champion Charles Fitzsimmons of London by four shots. Curtis Markusson was 73; Jordy Lutz and Drew Jones were 74; Allan McDonald was 76; Tyson Ehnes was 77; Lyle Mackenzie was 79; Brad Pardy and Tyson Lodge were 81 and Ben Bandura was 82. The low 70 players and ties after todays second round will make the cut and play the final 36 holes. 
 

The Southwood Golf & Country Club won Golf Manitoba's Interclub "A" Championship with a 245 total Tuesday at the St. Boniface Golf Club. Rhonda Orr (77), Fran Povoledo (83) and Ruth Schappert (85) combined for a five stroke victory over Cathy Derewianchuk, Shannon Wales and April Calderon-Roy of Glendale. Hope Mattus (101), Tam Yamashita (107) and Brenda Prystako (108) of the Pine Ridge Golf Club won the Interclub "B" Championship with a 316 total. Sue Bryner, Judi Bond and Joan Bornn of St. Boniface and Diane Wilson, Barb Lewis and Beth Adrian of Portage tied for second place, just two strokes back.
 

Max Murphy had three hits and drove in a pair of runs as the Winnipeg Goldeyes held on for a 7-5 victory over the Kansas City Monarchs. Raul Navarro launched a two-run homer in Winnipeg's five-run second inning. The home run was the Goldeyes’ 124th of the season, breaking the franchise record of 123 set in 1998.
 

Paul Stastny has signed a one-year $1.5 million contract with the Carolina Hurricanes. The 36-year-old free agent forward had 21 goals and 45 points in 71 games with the Winnipeg Jets last season. 
 

Jessie Eldridge and Sarah Fillier scored power play goals as Canada defeated the United States 3-1 in their final tune-up game before the start of the 2022 World Women's Hockey Championship in Denmark. Blayre Turnbull also scored for the Canadians. Starting goaltender Ann-Renee Desbiens allowed one goal on eight shots while Brandon's Kristen Campbell stopped all 12 shots she faced in the final 28 minutes. Canada will play its first of four preliminary round games Thursday against Finland.
