The Eastman Selects are perfect to start the 2011-2012 Manitoba "AAA" Midget Hockey League season. Devon Schade scored his second goal of the game on the powerplay with 6:59 remaining as Eastman edged the Pembina Valley Hawks 3-2 on Sunday afternoon in Morden. Evan Hanson also scored a powerplay goal for the Selects who beat the Kenora Thistles 4-2 in their home opener on Saturday night in Beausejour. Eastman goaltender Ryan Miner stopped 26 shots including a penalty shot late in the second period with the Selects leading 2-1 at the time. Eastman will play a pair of games against the Norman Northstars in Thompson this weekend.
AM 1250 Sports Director Clayton Dreger asked Eastman head coach Troy Kennedy to talk about his team's victory over the Hawks in Morden.
