There’s a lot of action this weekend at the Dawson Trail Park in Richer with around 85 participants in the Provincial High School Rodeo finals.

Event President Mark Lanouette is looking forward to seeing a high level of competition.

“When the finals show up, these kids just hit another level, they hit another gear.”

He says competitors are motivated to do well so they can make it to Canadian finals which will be in Brandon this year. The National finals rodeo is in Rocksprings, Wyoming.

Lanouette invites the public to check out the event in Richer this weekend and cheer on the young competitors.

“The junior highs start in Grade 5. To have these kids, at a very young age, manage these 1200-pound animals going down the arena and doing what they do, is pretty inspirational.”

There’s free admission for the rodeo, which starts today and wraps up on Sunday.
