RCMP have provided an update on the fatal collision between Steinbach and La Broquerie Tuesday morning.

At approximately 7:35 AM, officers from the Steinbach RCMP detachment responded to a two-vehicle collision on Highway 52 between Ekron Oswald Road and Borland Road.

Investigators have determined that a 26-year-old female from Steinbach was driving a car eastbound on Highway 52 when she attempted to avoid debris on the highway. She lost control of her vehicle and collided with a westbound pickup truck that had four occupants.

The 26-year-old female driver, and lone occupant, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The 28-year-old male driver of the pickup truck was taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. The three other occupants of the pickup truck were not injured.

The highway was closed for an extended period of time on Tuesday and was reopened shortly after noon.

Steinbach RCMP, along with a Forensic Collision Reconstructionist, continue to investigate.
