Tragically, the collision between Steinbach and La Broquerie Tuesday morning resulted in a fatality.

Emergency services were called to the crash around 8 AM on Highway 52 approximately halfway between Ekron Oswald Road and Borland Road, a mile and a half east of Steinbach.

La Broquerie Fire Chief Alain Nadeau says two vehicles were involved.

“It was a head-on collision between a smaller car and truck with a utility trailer in the back.”

The truck and trailer came to rest in the ditch on the north side of the highway and the car remained on the road itself.

Nadeau says the pickup truck had a driver and a few passengers, whereas the car had only a single occupant. He notes there was one fatality, one patient was taken to hospital in Winnipeg, and the remaining people involved in the collision were taken to the Bethesda Regional Health Centre as a precaution.

As this was a severe collision, Nadeau says the RCMP have called in a traffic reconstructionist, and their investigation continues.

Traffic is being diverted around the scene of the collision, and as of 10:30 AM, Nadeau says it will be a few hours before Highway 52 is reopened.
