Steinbach city council has approved phase three of Lexington Village. The housing development got underway last year with 67 housing units in phases one and two. It is located along the south side of Mckenzie Avenue, just west of the Meadows. Phase three will have 71 lots with 101 housing units. Councillor Michael Zwaagstra moved approval of the new subdivision.

"That is a significant amount of additional housing. It would be a variety of types of housing; there's single-family, multi-family and duplexes possible involved as well. I think it makes sense

City council voted unanimously in favour of the motion. It also approved the creation of several new streets in the subdivision which will be called Imperial Crescent, Alexander Way and Acorn Avenue. The neighbourhood is dedicated to affordable housing and the homes in phases one and two were snapped up very quickly last year.

Mayor Chris Goertzen says city council is pleased to see the success of this development.

"This is a large development in an area that was included into the city just a few years ago. We now see this taking shape rapidly where we have both multi-family, single-family and low-density housing. The developer is obviously filling a real niche. We're really pleased to see this moving forward and to see phase three move ahead this year."
