The cost of two utilities is going down as of August 1st.

The Public Utilities Board has approved the application of Centra Gas Manitoba Inc. to decrease the current Primary Gas rate from $0.2055/m3 to $0.1977/m3. Approval was also given for a decrease in the Stittco propane commodity rate from $1.9618/m3 to $1.8835/m3.

According to the Utilities Board, the current Primary Gas rate reduction is the result of declines in the North American natural gas market prices.

The new natural gas rate is projected to decrease the bill for a typical residential customer by approximately 1.9 per cent or $16 per year.

The new propane rate contributes to a decrease in the average residential bill of approximately 2.1 per cent or $41 per year when compared to current propane rates that were approved on May 1, 2022. Actual customer impacts will depend on propane consumption.

Natural gas and propane rates will be reviewed again November 1, 2022

Primary Gas rates for customers that have signed fixed-term fixed-price contracts with either Centra or a private broker are not affected.
