Multiple fire crews fight to save businesses on Main Street in Steinbach

Steinbach and neighbouring fire crews have quite the battle today, fighting a blaze in downtown Steinbach. 

Main Street is closed from Reimer to Friesen Avenue as crews try to contain and extinguish the fire burning in the building that houses Janzen’s Paint and Decorating, Best West Pet Foods, H & R Block, Investia Financial Services, and Steinbach’s Flooring Canada. 

There is a lot of smoke from this fire and RCMP warn that the smoke is toxic and if you can avoid the area, that would be best for emergency crews that are battling the fire. 

Fire crews are coming in from neighbouring departments and motorists should watch for them as they get to downtown Steinbach as quickly and safely as possible. 

There are reports that Manitoba Hydro has had to shut off power to the area. There are also reports of debris along the streets in the area.
