Steinbach Landfill held their most successful annual Oil Recycling Day ever on Wednesday June 10th.

Head of Sanitation Eldon Wallman says the yearly Oil Recycling Day is the only day of the year they give coupons for free oil in exchange for used oil, but the oil recycling depot is open the regular landfill hours all year long.

Wallman says this year was exceptionally good.

"It was absolutely fabulous. Weather was great. We took in over 8000 litres of oil and handed out 1000 free litres to the customers, so it was a great day."

Wallman says they see oil come from everywhere. He notes they get small amounts of oil from people who have changed the oil in their tillers and lawn mowers, right up to people who come in with hundreds of gallons from the farm.

"There was a couple of people that actually came in with forklifts, and on a pallet they had 3 drums of oil at one time, which is great. We gladly accept that oil."

Wallman says they also accept cooking oil at the recycling depot.
