Whether it’s the music, rides, food, or free activities for the kids, Summer in the City (June 14-16 in Steinbach) truly has something for everyone – and the festival continues to grow year over year.

Festival Coordinator Carla Campbell is enthusiastic about all the new ways the festival is drawing in the community: Market in the City, Paddles in the City, Race in the City, and Cornhole!

“We’re a celebration of arts, culture, and heritage on Main Street in Steinbach,” says Campell. “And it all kicks off Friday celebrating Steinbach’s 150th birthday!”

On Friday June 14th from 6-8pm, past and present Steinbach leaders will be serving birthday cake at the Heritage in the City tent in front of Main Bread & Butter.

“Throughout the festival you see different crafters, artisans, and vendor booths all weekend long,” shares Campell. “But Saturday’s new Market in the City is something completely new and different!”

On Saturday June 15th, look for Market in the City on Lumber Avenue from Main to Elmdale, right on the street between the SCU and Pic N Pay Shoes.

“We really want to highlight local arts and crafts, and provide a place where local people can showcase their creations,” explains Campell. “So Saturday’s Market in the City will be run by The Stand Market and Events, which has built a fantastic local following. They specialize in organizing these types of vendors, and we’re so excited for everything new they’re bringing to that area of the festival.”

Next up, pickleball fans rejoice – Paddles in the City is for you!

“Paddles in the City will be a pickleball match at the tennis courts on Lumber Avenue, between Second and Third Street, organized by the Pat Porter Active Living Centre,” says Campbell.

Register for the Paddles in the City pickleball match here.

Yet another new aspect of the festival is Race in the City, organized by The Puzzler Escape Rooms.

“Race in the City will run on Friday night and most of Saturday as well,” reveals Campbell. “The Puzzler will be working with some of our different sponsors and vendor booths all over the streets, so it’ll be kind of like an escape room activity in that it will be a timed event.”

To participate in Race in the City, you can sign up at The Puzzler booth which will be in front of their storefront on Main Street, across from the SCU.

And last but not least, on Sunday (Father’s Day!) there will be a cornhole tournament!

“After the Sunday morning worship service at the main stage area, we’ll turn that into an afternoon cornhole tournament!”

Campbell adds that the main stage area will stay licensed Sunday afternoon for cornhole.

“Eastman Cornhole will be running that for us,” she says. “It’s brand new to us and we’re really excited about it. People can sign up for cornhole on our website, www.summerinthecity.ca.”

But what about Worship in the City on Sunday afternoon? It’s still happening, just at a new location.

“Sunday afternoon you’ll find the rest of our worship music on the Bell MTS Street Arts Stage at the intersection of Main and Lumber,” explains Campbell.

There will also be a 50/50 draw this year at Summer in the City. To buy tickets for your chance to win, look for the 50/50 QR codes throughout Main Street during the festival.

With the addition of even more exciting ways to get involved and experience Summer in the City, it’s clear that the festival gets better every year.

What’s Campbell’s favourite part of the festival?

“Summer in the City is so family friendly. The rides, the food, and just seeing all the busy activity – my kids love it all!”
