The first of several public meetings dealing with grandparents' rights was held Wednesday in Selkirk.

It was organized by Minnedosa Conservative MLA Leanne Rowat.  She wants to improve grandparents' access to grandchildren in the event of a family breakdown.  She has introduced 2 private members' bills wihtout success, and has decided to take the issue to the people.  She wants to gain public support for this and get input.  Rowat intends to hold more meetings in the next few months.  She intends to re-introduce her private members' bill during the upcoming legislative session.
