It appears a thunderstorm in Winnipeg was the reason for an electrical outage that affected large parts of Steinbach and area Thursday morning.

The power went out about 8:50 am and was back on around 9:20.  Manitoba Hydro spokesperson Glenn Schneider tells us the problem originated in the southeast part of Winnipeg.  It's believed to have been caused by a lightning strike on a main feeder line.  A large part of Steinbach was affected by the outage including the mall, Highway #12 north and Main Street.
