After one year in the mayor’s chair, Yvan St. Vincent says it has been a busy time in the town of Ste. Anne, with challenges as well as positive events.

St. Vincent says the lagoon expansion has been the biggest challenge.

“It's a huge expense, but a necessary expense. There was no thought about whether we do it or not, there was just trying to figure out how to do it and not pass that huge financial burden on to the residents.”

He appreciates the effort of the town staff in finding ways to reduce the financial burden on residents.

St. Vincent says arena repairs would also be one of the top challenges this past year.

“That’s turned out to be a positive feel-good story, but there's still a lot of work to do there. We've talked about insulating, we've talked about a bunch of different things, and renovating the lobby and all those things. So, there's still a tremendous amount of work to do there. We're definitely off on the right foot, but we're far from done in that one.”

Looking ahead to the next 12 months, he says they look forward to the new daycare which is going up beside the ball diamonds.

“And we know that, depending on the footprint that that ends up taking, we definitely have some work to do on our baseball diamonds. We're just waiting to see exactly how much space the daycare needs. And then at that point probably the next big priority is to either upgrade, repair, move or do something with our baseball diamonds because that's a growing interest in town and we want to make sure we're supporting that interest as well.”

Also in the next year, St. Vincent says work will continue on the lagoon expansion as well as improvements at the arena.

St. Vincent says it is a lot of work being on council for a rapidly growing community, adding that he is really enjoying the interaction with residents.
