It was a tough winter for some honeybees in the La Broquerie area.

Martin Wall lost some of his bees and he’s not sure why this winter was so hard on them, noting that they overwintered in the shed which was temperature controlled.

“The shed was a regular temperature, so it has nothing to do with the cold. This year I don’t know what the problem was, so some died.”

He notes they have bounced back quite nicely, and his colonies are now in good health.

Wall has been an apiarist for 20 years and says he really enjoys spending time with the bees, adding the rest of his family does not really share his interest.

“This is my job and I do it. My wife helps me with the honey, but not my children. I (work with bees) alone.”

Wall can often be found at farmers’ markets with his display of honey products.
