The Jake Epp Public Library in Steinbach is closed today for building maintenance.

Last Saturday, October 28, library staff arrived to start their day only to discover that water had damaged several stacks of books in the Adult Fiction section of the library.

As requested by their insurance company, those stacks have been cordoned off all week.

Library staff say they will be closed on Saturday, November 4 and open again on Tuesday, November 7.

As they are normally closed on Monday’s anyway, they will take that day to continue taking stock of damaged books and continue clean-up.

There is no update on where the water came in, nor the number of books that were damaged or a cost-estimate of the water damage and now repairs. Library staff say that information will be coming in the next week or two.
