It ended up being a costly morning for a motorist who ran out of gas last week on the Trans Canada Highway near Winnipeg.

According to Manitoba RCMP, on Friday at 10:30 am, a female driver made a call to 911 after running out of gas and being left stranded in the middle of the westbound lanes of the highway near Deacon's Corner.

RCMP attended and say they found the driver to be intoxicated. Police say the 59-year-old motorist provided two separate samples of her breath and failed each sample. There was also open alcohol in a cupholder, empty cans on the floor and an unopened can of alcohol in her purse.

The driver was issued a 90-day license suspension. As well, the vehicle was towed and will be impounded for 30 days. A fine of $524 was also issued.
