Supporting local is more important now than ever, and HyLife, a food production and distribution company based in Manitoba, knows and celebrates this. That's why they created the Local Heroes program: an initiative aimed to spread positivity and support local passion and kindness.

The goal of the campaign was that HyLife would select four winners over several months to win their 'Local Hero Experience'. This experience includes a meal prepared by HyLife's Corporate Chef, and one thousand dollars to donate to a charity of the winner's choice.

Once the Local Heroes initiative concluded, HyLife wanted to find a unique way to celebrate and thank the community for their kindness, support, and passion. They brought their company food truck to the heart of Steinbach to offer free food, laughs, and joy to celebrate the conclusion of a successful campaign.

"It's never a dreary day when there's free food," says Kevin Geisheimer, the Marketing and Events Manager at HyLife who helped create the event. "The idea behind HyLife’s Local Heroes is to give back to our community. It's been humbling to learn about the countless selfless people that make our community better places to live. We have received so many thoughtful nominations- people taking the time to share the contributions of family, friends and neighbours."

HyLife is dedicated and passionate about providing quality foods to all of their clients. They exported their premium pork products to customers across the globe. Worldwide, they employ more than 4,500 employees.

But, HyLife isn't just about the numbers. As the Local Heroes campaign shows, they're dedicated to providing a local space to recognize the people in their community that make their business what it is.

"It's been really fun to be part of all the stories,” Geisheimer continues. "HyLife is always up for an opportunity to embrace community spirit and what better way than to give out an exceptional pork lunch here on Main Street."

Geisheimer notes that the idea began from purely wanting to give back to and support their local community through acts of kindness and appreciation. "It was just the culmination of the entire campaign. We wanted to wrap it up with a bit of a bang." Geisheimer furthers. "We wanted to do it right here in the middle of Steinbach, in the community."

When it came to suggesting a local hero that has made your community special, applicants visited HyLife's website to fill out their form and share their hero's story. The need to spread positivity and celebrate the little actions that bright up the days of many is needed now more than ever, as even the smallest of actions can make a world of a difference. HyLife knows that better than anyone.
