Mayor Chris Goertzen

It was a good day of discussion at the Mayor's Open Door Session at Steinbach City Hall Friday.  Mayor Chris Goertzen says there was a variety of things people wanted to talk about.  One of them was safety concerns at the Steinbach Airport

There are a lot of people flying in and out, there are skydivers and people using gliders.  There are a lot of fun activities there which makes it very busy.  City administration will meet with people involved at the airport and make sure everyone is on-board with all the safety procedures that need to be followed.

Another topic was concern over side yard allowances and setbacks for residential high density zoning.  Currently the city requires a 25 foot setback from the building to the property line between lots.  Some people feel this requirement for a high density building, which is a multi-family building four stories or higher, is not enough.  They will look at the current zoning bylaw and possibly examine some changes.

There was also a request for the Mayor to attend an event next Friday called Hunger Cry at KR Barkman Park.  The effort will raise money for the Canadian Red Cross for the tragedy in Somalia.
