The Ste. Anne Aces have won back-to-back South Eastern Manitoba Hockey League championships. Cody Fowlie and playoff MVP Jordan DePape had two goals each as the Aces shutdown the Warren Mercs 7-0 and swept the best-of-seven final in four straight. Travis Bosch made 27 saves in recording the shutout.


Jarvis Ewasko scored his second goal of the game in overtime to lift the Beausejour Comets past the St. Malo Warriors 6-5 at the Sun-Gro Centre. Merrick Hurcul also scored twice for the Comets who now lead the Capital Region Junior Hockey League’s best-of-seven final two games to none. Tanner Amos and Nikolas Bear also scored for Beausejour. Teagan Fillion had a pair of goals for the Warriors while the rest went to Brady Gregoire, Ashton Dubois and Damon Johnson. Game three goes Wednesday in St. Malo.


Stephanie Jacobs scored the go-ahead goal with 3:19 left in the third period and Cali Lavallee added an insurance marker with 1:27 remaining as the Winnipeg Ice defeated the Westman Wildcats 5-3 in Hartney. Chloe Nicolas had a pair of goals for the Ice who lead the Manitoba Female U18 AAA Hockey League’s best-of-five final two games to none. Callie Hilhorst, Shayla Scinocca and Paige Crossley replied for the Wildcats. Game three goes Sunday night at Hockey for All Centre.


The Winnipeg Jets gave up three goals in the first period and three more in the second and lost 6-3 to the N.Y. Islanders. Vladislav Namestnikov, Mason Appleton and Cole Perfetti scored for the Jets (44-21-5) who wrap up their five-game road trip against the Washington Capitals on Sunday afternoon.


Jeffrey Viel had a goal and an assist as the Manitoba Moose edged the Abbotsford Canucks 3-2 at Canada Life Centre. Kristian Reichel and Kyle Capobianco also scored for the Moose. Manitoba netminder Thomas Milic faced just 12 shots.


Daryl Watts recorded her first PWHL hat trick and Brianne Jenner had a goal and two assists as Ottawa downed Toronto 5-3.


Canada’s Rachel Homan will face defending champion Silvana Tirinzoni of Switzerland in the gold medal game at the World Women’s Curling Championship in Sydney, Nova Scotia. Homan, vice-skip Tracy Fleury, second Emma Miskew and lead Sarah Wilkes defeated Eunji Gim of South Korea 9-7. Tirinzoni beat Stefania Constantini of Italy 6-3 in the other semifinal.


The Canadian U-21 Curling Championships begin today in Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo, Alberta. Four Manitoba teams are competing, and they include Manitoba champions Shaela Hayward and Jordon McDonald and provincial finalists Jace Freeman and Zoey Terrick.


Kathy Isaac will meet Marlene Lang and that winner will face Kim Link in the final of the Provincial Senior Women’s Championship at the Heather Curling Club in Winnipeg.
