Motorists are being warned that gas prices could be going up this weekend.

The increased carbon tax will kick in on Saturday, which among other things, will impact the price of fuel. The increase will be 3.26 cents plus GST for regular fuel and 4.01 cents plus GST for diesel.

According to GasBuddy, the average price of regular fuel on Friday in Steinbach is 152.9 cents per litre, which is slightly higher than the provincial average. The average price in Manitoba is 152.0 cents per litre, the fourth lowest in Canada, behind only Saskatchewan, Ontario and Alberta.

The price of fuel in Steinbach is more than 20 cents per litre less than it was at this time last year. On March 31, 2022, it sat at 174.9 cents per litre. In the last year, the price in Steinbach peaked at 208.9 cents per litre in June and bottomed out at 143.9 cents per litre in January. 

Currently in Canada, the most expensive fuel can be found in White Rock B.C., where motorists are paying 187.9 cents per litre to fill their cars. The least expensive fuel is in Medicine Hat, Alberta, where the price at the pump is 115.9 cents per litre.
