Sunday's devastating fire in downtown Steinbach is not considered suspicious.

A provincial spokesperson has indicated that due to the extensive damage to the strip mall, the exact cause of this fire can not be determined at this time. However, it is not deemed to be suspicious.

The fire broke out mid-afternoon in a strip mall off Main Street. The mall, located at the Friesen Avenue intersection, was home to Janzen's Paint and Decorating, Best West Pet Foods, H & R Block, Investia Financial Services, Liberty Counselling Centre and Steinbach's Flooring Canada. The building was destroyed in the fire.

According to Steinbach RCMP, it appears the fire started in the warehouse at Janzen's Paint and Decorating. But, once again, investigators have not been able to determine exactly how the fire started, due to the extent of damage.

A damage estimate has not yet been provided.
