Steinbach’s country radio station is celebrating its 10th birthday today, marking a decade of bringing local stories and country music to the southeast.

Hitting the airwaves on June 19, 2014, the station has remained focused on what happens between the songs, featuring the voices of our friends, neighbours and community leaders.

While he wasn't the mayor at the time of the station's launch, current Steinbach Mayor, Earl Funk says the mix of musical genre and local-mindedness has contributed to COUNTRY 107's success.

“We can listen to country and we can get our local news. We have the local touch, we've got the local advertising from businesses that are in our area. I think that's what's exciting and more and more and more, as I ride along with my friends, I see it…they're tuned into 107.”

One of COUNTRY 107’s priorities from day one was featuring many local artists. The station has consistently provided a platform for up-and-coming musicians from southeastern Manitoba, helping them gain exposure and connect with new audiences.

From Toys Days, the Taste of Summer Charity BBQ and Fall Food Drive to many other local initiatives, COUNTRY 107 continues to help support and promote generosity in our communities.

Golden West President, Brett Adnum emphasized the importance of connecting communities.

"As a Golden West radio station, we’ve always believed that our role goes beyond just playing the music. We’re here to be a voice for the community, to share local stories and local information.  We wouldn’t be able to do any of this without our advertisers and our audience… so thank you… for supporting and listening to Country 107 over the years.  It’s been an incredible journey and we’re excited for what the future holds.”

As COUNTRY 107.7 FM looks ahead to the next decade, the station remains committed to its core value of community service.

Golden West's Manitoba Content Lead and COUNTRY 107 Program Director, Trev Schellenberg, says launching this station ten years ago, adding to the local coverage already provided by AM1250, MIX 96.7FM and SteinbachOnline.com, only makes our corner of the province better.

“We live in an amazing community and we’re always looking for ways to make it better. Our team of professionals on this radio station are second to none. All locally-minded and focused on being a trusted news and information source for Steinbach and the southeast.”

Listeners can join the celebration by tuning in throughout the day for special birthday programming, including interviews with local artists, throwback segments, and a look back at some of the most memorable moments from the past 10 years.
