As the school year comes to a close, École Pointe-des-Chênes in Ste. Anne, Manitoba, students and staff reflect on a successful year, highlighted by achievements in sports and academics, and bids farewell to its graduating class of 2024.

Principal Nicholas Durand says he is proud of the school's accomplishments over the past nine months, particularly noting the success of their sports teams in volleyball, hockey, and track.

"This year, our students have shown exceptional dedication and talent, making it to regionals and even provincials in several sports. It's been a year of hard work and achievement across the board."

Durand notes that this year their school will be handing out diplomas to 20 students, which is a larger class size compared to recent years.

"We've seen a resurgence in our numbers," he said. "This class has been remarkable for its leadership, camaraderie, and diversity of interests."

Reflecting on the support from the community, Durand highlighted the numerous scholarships and bursaries offered by local businesses and organizations.

"Our community plays a crucial role in supporting our students' future endeavors. Their generosity ensures that our graduates have the resources they need to pursue higher education or other paths."

Cassidy Lesage and Noah Dumont are this year's valedictorians, and they share their excitement and gratitude for being chosen to represent their class.

"It's such an honor to speak on behalf of our classmates," Cassidy says. "We've grown up together, forming strong bonds and supporting each other through our journey."

While Noah adds, "Being selected as valedictorians by our peers means a lot. It shows the trust and respect they have for us."

Both Cassidy and Noah highlighted the close-knit community of their school as a significant aspect of their high school experience.

"We're like a family here. Growing up together, we've learned, matured, and celebrated milestones as a tight-knit group."

Looking ahead, Cassidy plans to attend the Asper School of Business at the University of Manitoba, combining her academic pursuits with her passion for hockey. While Noah has been accepted into the University of Manitoba for Engineering and is eager to explore various fields within the discipline.

Offering advice to their fellow graduates, Cassidy encouraged them to savor the present moment and pursue their passions. "Enjoy where you are and work hard for what you believe in." 

And Noah emphasized the importance of taking risks and learning from failures. "Don't be afraid to fail. It's all part of the journey of finding what you truly love and excel at."

As the school prepares for graduation ceremonies, Principal Durand shares his thoughts.

"This class of 2024 has left a lasting impact on our school with their leadership, inclusivity, and achievements. We wish them all the best in their future endeavors."

The graduation ceremony and celebration afterwards will take place on Friday, June 21 in Ste. Anne.
