Donate to the Fall Food Drive at Clearspring Centre

The Fall Food Drive is taking place today and tomorrow, October 5th and 6th. 

It's a great way to get involved in the community and help out South East Helping Hands help those in need. 

Bring non-perishable food items to the Clearspring Centre outside of Sobeys from 9am-6pm on Thursday and Friday. South East Helping Hands, AM1250, MIX 96.7FM, and COUNTRY 107.7FM will be there collecting. 

Ken Dyck from South East Helping Hands says everybody deserves to eat, and the food bank wants to make sure everybody can eat, even when they can’t afford to. 

“It's a need, I don't think it's going to go away. It's been around for years and years.” 

Dyck says you never know what a family is going through. 

“It could be your relative that you don't even know about, and that's what we're there for. We're there for everybody. We try to cover everybody,” he says. “Some people don't show up because they don't feel good coming, but we have helped those in the past in a roundabout way and so we do what we can.” 

South East Helping Hands does more than just help people in Steinbach, they help other food banks around southeastern Manitoba as well. 

“There's a lot of food banks if they're running low on stuff and if we've got extra, we do help them out. Second harvest sometimes phones us with a major supply, then we will disperse it  because it might be too much for just us, so we try to help out a lot of different places.” 

He shares some key items that would be super helpful for the food bank right now. 

“Cereal is always a big thing, and I always harp on that one because that disappears the fastest because everybody eats cereal. Hygiene stuff, people don't think about it, but we do have a couple of people about twice a month who bring us a big bag of toothpaste and toothbrushes, we do give that out too.”
